TEENAGE MOTHER EXPERIENCE
Teenage mothers refer to young girls who have children before adulthood, tentatively girls, usually within the ages of 13-18. The teenage mothers or pregnancy rate in Uganda is worrying at about 25%.
Young mothers in Uganda face poor maternal and child health care, being isolated, failure to continue with school, and poverty. Transition to motherhood needs physical, psychological, social and cognitive preparedness; but teenage mothers are not ready to become mothers. Motherhood becomes cumbersome and convoluted for teenage mothers, who endure maternal role and developmental task of adolescence simultaneously. And that’s where this product comes in, Friends nature Safari through donations and partnership with organizations help restore hope to these young mothers.
Why Teenage Mothers?
FNS and YMFU fights and Educates school going Girls, dropouts and communities regarding dangers of Teenage Pregnancy and child marriages. And equips young mothers with skills to sustain their basic needs. This is done through community Tours in Butambala and Uganda at Large.
since teen mothers make baskets, we shall ensure each mother plants sisal and Banana Plantations in their homes for sustainability. They are also empowered with life skills like teaching them how to make re-usable Pads which is the main cause of school dropouts and teenage pregnancy.
Overview of an excursion with teen mothers
These excursions give you a chance to access, experience and relate to the life of a teenage mother. For example, her life as a wife living with a husband.
Her chores that include house work, grazing domestic animals, gardening, preparing breakfast and lunch for her family, fetching water from the well and basket weaving and so much more. The excursion puts you at the scene, giving you a touch, a feel, a view and experience of a teenage mother in Butambala.
